Hey all,

I've been using dndsheets.net for a while now to display my characters on my tablet during gaming, getting tired of the mess that the paper versions turn into after a while of penning and erasing.

Last saterday though, halfway during the game, my character sheet was suddenly completely empty. I've tried the undo button the same day, which claimed it could restore it to the state of the previous day, but as of yet the entire sheet is still completely empty.

Is there anything i can do to try and get my character back? the character id is 2776 if thats of any use to anyone.

Many thanks in advance,

Amber-Willow Talamasca

Hey there, my host is currently having some issues today, as soon as those are sorted through I'll take a look through the backup archives for you. When is the last time you remember it working properly?

in the morning of the 23rd it was still there. Somewhere during the day it was completely gone. 22nd would be the safest bet.

I'm wondering though, is the host issue related to this? cause i did my best to find a way i could've reset the sheet but found nothing of the sort.

Anyways, thanks for a great service and support in regaining my character! :)

No, it's not host related in any way. I'll download one of the full database backups from the 22nd and take a look through and see if I can restore your character manually. I'll let you know once it's done. :)

No worries, sorry it took so long. The corruption persisted through a few months worth of backups, so I had to pinpoint the last backup that contained a clean copy. All should be well now :)

This just happened to one of the characters I've been building today. It was working earlier today, but when I went to update some info it was completely blank. Please tell me that it's recoverable.. ;.;

Hey there, a character ID would help.

Also if you just created it today, there's a good chance it hasn't been caught in the database backups, and so there's a good chance it's lost.

Sorry.. :headbang: I don't know why I didn't think to do that in the first post..
The name is Samuel and the ID is 19321.
And no, I created the character like a few weeks ago and have been updating it for a while.

And now I just checked and the Character Orchid2-ID#18407 is also blank! What's happening.. ;.;

If you're copy and pasting data from other sites (Some sites like dandwiki are notably horrible for this) they use very weird character encoding for certain symbols. Usually +/- on mods, quotation marks etc. When you paste them here where I use standard encoding the data becomes corrupted and cumulatively degrades the character data until the whole sheet is corrupted.

I'll try and download and sort through a database backup from a few days ago and see if I can recover them.

In general beware of pasting anything with symbol characters (the - in mods, and quotes especially. Paste them in then manually just replace them with - or " on your keyboard) and you should avoid the problem in the future.

I know I copy/pasted some stuff from the SRD into my private notes for those sheets.. So that must be it.. Darn I didn't know that.. That's a harsh lesson to learn. But now I know and hope to never repeat that.. x.x

Hi, don't know if anyone will be able to see this, but today, as I was editing feats, I scrolled down to the notes section to put in extra details from the SRD, and it was empty. The notes, languages and gold section were gone. I put everything back in and saved it, but I had to restart my computer for an update, so I saved again, got the 'Character Saved' window and restarted. I go back in and scroll down and everything is gone again. I am now a bit too scared to even save my other character sheets, even though all the info is still in the notes for them. I made this new character sheet sometime last week, so it isn't brand new. Can someone help me with this? The character sheet is Sasha #34828

Adding this because the same has also happened to another of my character sheets. Saved it, closed it and opened it up again and all the notes, languages and gold amount was gone. Azure #14353

Yes, there was a bug where after updating hardware a setting reset limiting the amount of variables able to be posted by PHP, I have corrected the issue and sheets should once again save perfectly fine. Sorry about the trouble :)

Thank you for the fix, just had to re-add all my lost info, which didn't take me all that long.
